River's Edge

Find new wild flowers every day.
Bumble Bee & Bleeding Hearts in Camden, Maine

Summer in Camden, Maine
The wildflowers have a timing & cycle all their own.

Lupine are followed by Day Lilies, Queen Anne's Lace, then Daisies in many varieties,

Black eyed Susans, Goldenrod& many more which you can have fun identifying.

You'll find wildflower reference books at the house; enjoy & use them on your walks.
The wildflowers attract droves of butterflies & hummingbirds.

You'll see Swallowtail & Monarch, as well as others more exotic & rare.

Keep an eye out of the monarch's cocoon--it's hanging under a rock & has edges of gold.

Collect Pine Cones or River Rocks.
Pine Cones on the Float at River's Edge
.

The float in the river is a favorite haven of Dragonflies &Damselflies,
both long time residents of our planet,
serving as pollinators & mosquito eaters.

They are your friends & won't sting or hurt you.

They'll come & sit on your toe or finger & let you have a good look

at their beautiful iridescent colors & patterns.

This is a special treat & the only way to see what they really look like.

There is no known way to preserve the colors of a Dragonfly specimen.

Sometimes you can glimpse a Beaver family playing along the banks
& in the water in the late afternoon.

Last summer, they had two babies with them.

The cunning raccoons usually prowl around at night looking for food.

Also at night you may spy the red fox who lives around the lake & river. What a sight!

You can't miss the porcupines.

They live in the untamed parts of the property, between the house & the dam.

They compete with you for the wild black berries

which have been abundant just outside the kitchen door & beyond.
(The porcupines are winning.)

So do get out there and pick when they are ripe & enjoy some for yourselves.

The sounds you hear at night in the early summer are a chorus of Loons & Bull Frogs.

Wander around River's Edge.
Geese will visit you.

Fishing is good in the late afternoon.

In September, listen for the Owl in the evenings & occasionally
a Woodpecker at dawn.

October brings changing colors every day all around.
By this time, the Bass you catch when you drop your line from the float are huge.

Cool crisp air is mild enough to invite you to sit outside on the porch
&
enjoy the abundant nature as it prepares for winter.

By November, the leaves are falling & the best of fall in New England sets in.

Spring, Summer or Fall
River's Edge is a wonderful spot to vacation & unwind or to work in absolute peace.

Artists, writers, composers, musicians, poets & photographers have been inspired
